Bill Longworth has been involved in Oshawa political activity in various capacities for over 30 years. As Founder and Chairman of "Ward System Now," Bill Longworth campaigned to bring ward elections to Oshawa in 1985, personally presenting the winning case to the OMB in a 21 day hearing. Bill Longworth was Oshawa's Federal Progressive Conservative Candidate in the 1990 By-election and presently hosts a weekly three hour political radio show, "Eye on City Hall," and writes a weekly newspaper column by the same title archived at www.eyeoncityhall.ca. Bill Longworth has been a long-time observer and watchdog of Oshawa City Council and has been writing the blog, Oshawa Speaks at www.oshawaspeaks.ca for the last four years. Bill Longworth holds degrees from both Queen's University and the University of Toronto.
Bill Longworth served as President of Oshawa Parkwood Rotary Club and for two years served as the District Governor's Representative for all Rotary Clubs from Scarborough to Cobourg. He was awarded an honourary "Paul Harris Fellowship" for his service to Rotary. Bill Longworth was also awarded the McDonald Cartier Award by Prime Minister Mulroney for his service to the Progressive Conservative Party. As a school principal, Bill Longworth served on the executive of the Ontario Principal's Association. Bill Longworth has been widely recognized for his leadership strengths...and now wants to bring this leadership ability to improve Oshawa City Hall.
In Bill Longworth's spare time, he enjoys oil painting, wood carving, story writing, guitar playing and singing, cottaging, the outdoors, blues and jazz, and travel.
Bill Longworth has worked in China as a visiting professor, was hired in Egypt to start up a high school to prepare students to write the SAT's for entrance to American Universities, and worked in England as a Secondary School Math Teacher.
